I was born and raised in Grand Rapids. I learned to hunt and fish at a young age from my father, grandfather and uncles. As a young adult, my passion was upland bird hunting, which I still enjoy. However, big game hunting has become my favorite type of hunting. I have hunted in several western states, Canadian provinces, Africa, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand. I have been on the board of the SCI Michigan Chapter for six years, including two years as Secretary.
I was in the US Navy, serving aboard the USS Basilone DD824 as a radarman for three years. I graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in Fish and Wildlife Management. I retired from the City of Grand Rapids in 2005. I am married to Sue Ellen and we have two boys, Matt and Adam. I am very proud of our Chapter and its board. We are hard-working volunteers with more good things to come.
